(Bailey trolling for walleyes)

Fishing Report

9-2-10

Labor Day weekend is upon us and it is really amazing how fast this summer has gone. Not long and the leaves will be changing and fall will be upon us. If you still have a craving for  that walleye thump and would like to get out for some late summer/early fall fishing, give us a call and we will make it happen. Walleyes continue to bite! The absolute key this time of year is consistent and stable weather. A bit of wind, the right depth and bait and the bite is on. We are still working a lot of that 9-12 ft of water. Our best presentations continue to be vertical jigging with worms, leeches, or minnows. Pitching jigs with plastics. We have also had good luck covering water with bouncers and spinners. Chartreuse, green, pink, white, and hammered silver have all been good colors for spinners. I think more important than color is depth and speed. We are moving between .7 and 1.4 mph most days. Again, our depths have usually been between 9-12 ft, but there are days when it can be as deep as 20 plus. Northerns and bass are still biting and it seems like the best action for them is pitching cranks or jigs and plastics into the shallows and retrieve them back. We have also caught some nice northerns trolling cranks out a bit deeper, (anywhere from 10-16 ft) with Shad-raps or Salmo hornets. Good luck to all and remember it is not to late to have feel that thump on the end of your pole!!

8-25-10

The fish are still biting; however, the bite seems to be a bit hit and miss. Some days the action is fast and furious and others you have to really work for them. Weather has varied from hot to cool to calm to windy which can make normal patterns a bit unpredictable. There are manny up and comers biting (10-12 inch walleyes) and the key is to find those schools of larger fish. The best method right now seems to be pulling spinners or trolling cranks for the simple reason that you cover water. Each day the fish are biting somewhere and the key is to find that somewhere. Tip spinners with leeches, half a crawler, or a minnow. Other presentations, such as jigging and slip-bobbering, are still producing as well. Best depths for us have still been shallow (8-14 ft of water). White bass are being caught in the shallows along weed beds and the key for them is jigs and plastics. Once you find them, it is hot and heavy. Northerns are being caught with the bass and the walleyes as well. Good luck!!

8-12-10

Where is summer going? Seems like time is flying by too fast these days. Good news is that fish are still biting. We have had some very warm weather this past week, but the fish don't seem to mind. Some days we really get them and others we have to work a bit. There really is no rhyme or reason for the days that they smack and the days that we have to work a bit. Sames presentations have been producing. Jigs tipped with a leech or a third of a crawler. Bouncers and spinners with crawlers or slip-bobbers have all worked. Best depths have been 10-18 feet. Weeds seem to be the key for us. Flooded rock piles or roads have also been good. We are seeing lots of up and comers for walleyes (those 8-12 inch fish), which is great to see!! We are also catch a lot of those 14-18 inch fish with the occasional walleye over 20 inches. White bass are biting, but you need to find them as they are on the move of late. Look for the bubbling on calm days and work shorelines with jigs and plastics. Pike are a bit hit and miss. We are mostly catching them while we are walleye fishing. With school starting or very near for many, this is a great time for a family trip out to Devils Lake! Good Luck fishing and enjoy the rest of summer!!

7-25-10

And the bite goes on!! Not much has changed here in Devils Lake over the past week. We still have a fantastic bite for walleyes and bass. Same presentations and depths are working. We have connected with some very big fish this week. Walleyes over 24 inches, many bass between 16-18.5 inches, and several pike over 37 inches. The norm for walleyes are those 14-18 inchers, the perfect fish to keep. There are many different areas that are working: flooded trees, points, roads, rip-rap, rock-piles, and weeds. This is a great time to be out in Devils Lake. Fish whatever method is comfortable for you and good luck!!

7-16-10

It is a bad time to be a walleye and a good time to be a walleye fisherman on Devils Lake. The walleyes are on the bite and all presentations seem to be working. Our best luck has been working weed lines in that 8-14 ft of water. There are still some shorelines where pitching cranks will produce; however, weeds are starting to really grow and you need to know where the pockets exist on each shoreline where you can pitch effectively. Live bait rigs such as bouncers and spinners have been good. We have been doing a lot of vertical jigging and pitching jigs along weeds, rock piles, and drop-offs. Overall, fish whatever way is most comfortable for you.

White bass are a bit deeper as well. Once you find them, be prepared to do a lot of catching. They seem to be a bit more scattered of late, but we have also been spending more time catching eyes and not going after the bass. Northerns are being caught every now and then with the walleyes. The weather has been nice and the fish are biting. It is common to catch many walleyes between 14-18 inches with some nicer 19-25 inchers mixed in as well. Get out here and enjoy some of the best fishing of the year!!

7-11-10

It’s a good time to be a walleye fisherman on Devils Lake. Walleyes seem to be biting just about everywhere, with the best bite happening in 9 – 13 feet of water. Walleyes have definitely slid a bit deeper and we’re having our best luck working the edges of weed lines. Vertical jigging, slip-bobbering and live bait rigs are all working around the weed beds. It seems like worms have been the ticket. Also, pitching jigs and Gulp or pulling Gulp along these weed beds have been successful. Other areas to fish include points, rock piles and flooded timber. As for white bass, they continue to bite as well but seem to be a bit deeper too. A few northerns have been caught while we’re walleye fishing. The key right now is to remember that the fish have slid deeper and they could really be in any depth at this point in the game. We have caught many fish in the 14” – 18” range, which are the perfect eaters. Good luck fishing!

7-6-10

The bite is on at Devils Lake! We have had some warmer weather which has helped warm up water, create more weed growth, and helped with an algae bloom in the water. These are all ingredients that equal active fish on our lake. Methods for catching fish really vary from pitching cranks/jigs, slip-bobbering, pulling spinners, or trolling cranks. We have caught fish using all of these presentations. Best depths seem to be 4-17 ft of water. Fish where the wind is blowing in if you can and if not work weed lines, points, flooded points or trees. It seems like once you catch 3 or 4 walleyes, there are a lot more around so stay on them. Also, we have caught many of those nice eating size fish (14-18 inchers), and we have even caught some up and comers (8-12 inchers), which are great to see. White bass are still shallow and they seem to hit any cranks or jig/plastic combo you put in front of them. Northerns are a bit scattered, some are shallow and some are deeper. We are catching a few each day mixed in with the walleyes and bass. Good luck fishing and have a great weekend!

6-24-10

Persistence is the key. It seems like patterns can change from day-to-day, but if you’re willing to work at it you can usually catch your fish. Walleyes are being caught in depths of 2 – 14 feet of water. Some days they seem shallow and some days they seem to be a bit deeper, but these have been the most common depths for me. Take advantage of wind-swept shorelines and work the drop-offs between 4 and 8 feet of water. Slip-bobbering and live-bait rigging have all caught fish, depending on which you prefer to do. The best cranks have been #5 Shad Raps and the best colors have been hot steel, perch, fire tiger and bleak. White Bass are everywhere and they will hit anything you throw at them. Northern Pike have been a bit spotty but can be caught along the shallows with walleyes and bass. Good Luck Fishing!

6-17-10

Fishing has been a bit hit and miss on Devils Lake for walleyes. There are days they really go and there are times when you have to search for them. We have had some inconsistent weather lately, which can slow the walleye bite down a bit. Overall, if you stay with it you can make good things happen with the eyes. The bite just before dark has been fantastic! We have had our best luck pitching cranks or jigs, pulling live bait rigs, or slip-bobbering. Best depths seem to be 2-14 feet of water. We are starting to see weed growth and look for fish to be caught a bit deeper each day/week now. White bass remain constant in places and pike are mixed in with the walleyes and bass in the shallows. We have some warmer weather coming and this is a great time of the year to get out on the water!! Good luck!!

6-10-10

Fishing remains solid on Devils Lake! White Bass seem to be everywhere. There are place where they are every cast for as long as you want. You can put about anything in front of them and they will hit. Walleyes have been good, but you may have to search a bit more for them. They still seem to be more aggressive come mid-day on. We are still pitching cranks and jigs up into the shallows. Walleyes have also been caught out in deeper water (as deep as 20 ft) so look for more patterns to be starting for walleyes every day. Live bait rigs and slip-bobbering has been good at times as well. Northerns are mixed in with bass and walleyes and we have had some huge slough sharks pitching cranks along the shallows. Water temps are still the key, find it and you should do fine! Good luck!!

6-3-10

Fishing has been good on Devils Lake! The walleyes are big, healthy and hungry. It seems like the mid-day bite is the best. We have had our best luck pitching cranks or jigs and plastics into the shallows. Water temps are good and it is important to find stained water as well. The best depths have been 1-10 ft of water. It also seems like the cranks with the orange bellies have triggered more bites. More traditional methods like live bait rigs have been catching fish too. This is probably the best time of year to catch trophy fish because the majority of them are in the shallow water feeding. We have had many walleyes over 5 pounds, several northerns between 15-20 pounds, and many whopper bass. Good luck to all!!

5-24-10

Fish are biting!!! Now is the time to get out on Devils Lake and experience the shallow water bite! Find cattails and rocks with the warmest water and get ready. Seems like the bite is best during the mid-day hours, after the sun has had some time to heat up the water a few degrees. Also, the night bite has been fantastic. The best time to fish is probably towards the late evening and even after dark. It is important to mix retrieves and use pauses and jerks to entice bites. You will have many fish hit right at the boat. The best baits include: jigs and plastics, shadraps, countdowns and live bait rigs like lindy-rigs tipped with a leech or minnow and slip-bobbers tipped with the same. Remember catch and release on the bigger fish. It is common to catch walleyes between 20 and 25 inches and bigger this time of year; remember, they are our future and to put them back! Good Luck and keep your lines tight!!

4-15-10

Game On!! We have open water on Devils Lake and it is time again to hit the soft water. We have had a quick spring and we are close to a month ahead of where we were last year at this time. Look for May fishing to be very good. With open water coming so early this year, there should be plenty of days of sun to hit those shallow back bays and to trigger the fish to bite. The key is warm water, and this should not be a problem. As for fishing right now….there are northerns and walleyes being caught; however, the bite can be a bit hit and miss because we are in pre-spawn and spawn conditions. The next few weeks will be some great fishing mixed in with some slow fishing. It really depends on the day and even the hour you are fishing.

We are excited for the 2010 fishing season! Give us a call today to make that trip of a lifetime to Devils Lake.

Remember: Fish for the future! Please practice catch and release on those bigger fish!! Keep your lines tight!!

3-17-10

Spring has sprung!! It is here: water in the fields, ducks and geese flying around, and the smell of freshness in the air. We have had a fast melt and much has changed around Devils Lake in 10 days. Extreme caution is advised out on the ice. No truck travel is advised. We have had sun and wind and they are the two key ingredients to poor ice. So please use your head!!

As for fishing, the spring bite has been solid. Walleyes have been smacking in that 10-16 feet of water. Seems like you have to pound it hard until they show up and then let it sit in front of their faces about 8 inches off of the bottom. We have had our best results along weed lines. As for pike, there have been some big fish being caught. Seems like they have been a bit scattered, but we have had some consistency near culverts and bridges. Having flowing water close by is the key.

We are looking forward to the summer season!! We would be more than happy to get you on the water. Feel free to call or check out our website if you're interested in fishing with us, fishing reports, or any questions that you may have regarding Devils Lake! Set the hook!!

Happy New Year!!!

How life keeps moving along. We have been getting some frigid weather the past few days. Look for ice to be building each day. Right now ice conditions are between 12-16 inches and even more in some places. Please remember to be careful out on the ice! The fishing has been a bit hit and miss. Some days are pretty good and others are tougher. Fish have been very finicky the past few days, probably because of the cold front that has moved in. Look for walleyes around points, humps, weedlines, timber and rock piles for the best results. The best depths have been about 10 - 16 feet of water. Perch have been showing up in some deeper water, anywhere from 27-36 feet. We have not caught any large numbers, but we have caught some nice-sized perch. As for northerns, there have been some nice ones speared along weedlines and flooded roadbeds. There have also been some pike angled in the back end of some of the shallower bays on Devils Lake and up north on Lake Irvine and Morrison Lake. Good Luck!!!

October 3, 2009

Fall is certainly here!! We had such a warm and beautiful September, now we are getting into more traditional fall weather patterns. There are lots of activities to do in the Devils Lake area this time of year. Deer, grouse, goose, and duck hunting are all open. This time of year is always the craziest for me because there are so many options and so little time. Daylight is starting to fade more and more and the wildlife is preparing for winter.

We do still have some fabulous fishing. Fishing is a lot of fun this time of year. There is something about late fall fishing that is special. Maybe it is the fact that open water will soon be gone, or is it the fact that large fish are building up their fat supplies and on the bite. Whatever it is, we would be more than happy to get you on the water. We still have guides that are ready to go and this is truly getting to be your last chance before freeze up. We also have a guide going on Stump Lake, which has a fantastic fall bite.

I would like to say thanks to all of the people who fished with Bry’s Guide Service this summer. It was our busiest summer ever and we had awesome clients and fishing. It makes our job a lot of fun and we look forward to fishing with you again. Keep your lines tight!!

August 26, 2009

Fishing remains very good on Devils Lake! Many of the same presentations and depths are the same as they were midsummer. We are catching fish along weed-lines, rock piles, timber, and flooded roads. It seems like they move a bit from day to day, but they are usually within pretty close vicinity of the structure I mentioned above. One day they might be hugging the weeds in 10-11 feet, and the next they might be out a bit deeper (13-25 feet). Jigs tipped with a third to a half crawler have been very good. Leeches are catching fish as well. We will often anchor up and vertical jig. When we do this we always set up with bobbers, there are days when they catch the majority of the fish. Fish are also being caught with live bait rigs like: bouncers and spinners and lindy-rigs. Summer is starting to wind down and fall is just around the corner. We would be more than happy to get you out on the water for some excellent late summer/early fall fishing. Good luck to all!!

August 8, 2009

Fishing is fantastic! It seems like weeds are the key. Work the edges of them with whatever presentation you are the most comfortable with. Best depths seem to be that 9-15 ft. of water. We have used jigs, bobbers, and lindy-rigs and had great luck. It is very common to catch 40-70 walleyes a day. The fish will vary from 10-18 inches with the occasional bigger one showing up from time to time. Flooded rocks have also been producing. Bass fishing has been good. The key is to locate them. They are usually in the shallow water, so cover water and you will eventually run into them. We have seen a few more northerns showing up, mainly when we are walleye fishing, but they have been a bit trickier to pattern. This is a great time of year to get out and enjoy some great fishing on Devils Lake! Good luck and keep your lines tight!!

July 24, 2009

And the bite goes on! Walleyes seem to be a bit deeper with the most common depths between 12-24 feet. Good areas to work include weedlines, rock piles, drop-offs, flooded roads, and flooded timber. Fish can truly be anywhere this time of year and it seems like we are catching a lot of those 14-18 inch fish with the occasional 20 inch plus fish. All presentations are catching fish: vertical jigging and bobbers, trolling cranks, pulling bouncers and spinners and pitching jigs and plastics. Worms and leeches have been the best baits. It seems like if you pinch off some of the worm, you get more bites. White bass remain active in the shallower bays. All presentations will work for them. Northerns continue to be a bit scattered; however, there are days when they show up when we are fishing for walleyes. Good luck and enjoy the great fishing and beautiful weather!!

Father/Son Fish 50 States in 50 Days w/Bry's Guide Service

July 16, 2009

Storms and wind have dominated the weather this past week on Devils Lake, making it tricky to even fish. However, when we were getting out, fishing remains solid. It seems like the fish are moving a bit deeper each week. The best depths have been in 8 – 20 feet of water. Vertical jigging with leeches or worms and slip-bobbering have been effective. We have also had good luck trolling crank baits in 10 – 18 feet of water. This allows you to cover water and fish active pockets of walleyes. Many anglers are pulling bouncers and spinners and having luck as well. White bass fishing continues to be incredible and they seem to be in shallow water, 2 – 6 feet. Northern action is spotty. Good luck fishing!

Mark's ND Live Fishing Report

July 6, 2009

Walleye fishing remains good on Devils Lake. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, however, many of the same presentations and depths that we’ve been using over the last two weeks are still working (slip-bobbering and pitching cranks or jigs along the shorelines). The best depths have been anywhere from 2 – 12 feet of water, with some fish being caught in up to 18 feet of water. The key is to find weed beds that are growing and fish along the edge of them. Bass fishing is unbelievable and there are many areas to find them, and you catch them every single cast. It doesn’t matter what presentation you use - they’ll hit anything. Northern fishing has been a bit more hit and miss with the warmer weather. It seems like they are sliding into deeper water. Good luck fishing!

June 25, 2009

As the weather heats up, so has the fishing on Devils Lake. We finally have algae in the water, which is helping to make it easier to catch fish in shallow waters. Weed beds are starting to grow and it seems like the schools of walleyes are starting to congregate. We are catching a lot of 14 – 17 inch walleyes, as well as some larger fish each day. Any bay can produce fish, so don’t be afraid to try spots that don’t have as many boats. The best presentations have been slip-bobbering with leeches and pitching cranks or jigs with plastics in 2-12 feet of water. White bass and northern fishing remains good, catching them in the same places as the walleyes are. Good luck fishing and enjoy the warm weather. Summer is finally here!

June 18, 2009

Walleye fishing continues to get better and better. Warm weather is heating the water, which is making the walleyes more and more active each day. Fish are still being caught in shallow water, anywhere from 2 – 12 feet. When the wind blows, try to work wind-swept shorelines. Again, try to avoid clear water. Northern Pike and White Bass fishing remain fantastic. When you find a school of white bass, you can catch them every single cast. Northerns are usually close to schools of bass. The best lures have still been crank baits, especially cranks with orange bellies. Jigs and plastics are working well too and fishermen are also starting to pull spinners with leeches and worms. Good luck fishing and enjoy the warm weather we are finally getting!

June 11, 2009

The walleye fishing is starting to get back on track after the cold snap over the weekend. The key is to find dirty water, working crankbaits, jigs and plastics or slip bobbering in shallow bays. It’s very important to have pauses and jerks with the retrieves. Many of the walleyes are hitting at the boat. Later in the days seem to be better, after the sun has heated the water. The change in water temperature seems to make a big difference. Fishing should continually improve as the weather warms up. White bass and northern fishing have been very good, working the same water as the walleyes.

June 4, 2009

Fishing remains good in shallow bays. We’re starting to see the Mayfly hatch and many of the fish that we are catching contain Mayfly larvae in their stomachs. There are a lot of positive factors occurring in shallow water, which in turn is bringing in more fish. Another key factor is water temperature. It seems that if you can find water in the upper 50’s to lower 60’s you will find fish. The best methods for catching fish include pitching cranks or jigs into the shallow bays. If you’re not comfortable with that method, you could also use bobbers or spinners in the shallow waters. Northerns and White Bass are also being caught with the Walleye in the shallows. Good Luck fishing!

May 29, 2009

Fish are shallow!! We have had some excellent action in the shallow bays of Devils Lake. With the lake over 3 feet higher than it was last year, it is a new ball game out there. There are many new backwater areas that we have never fished before and we are finding active fish in these bays. The key is sun and water temperature. Most days the bite is the best in the afternoons after the sun has had some time to heat up the water a few degrees. Pitch shad raps, countdowns, or jigs and plastics or tipped with leeches. Some days it is a slow retrieve other days it doesn’t seem to matter. Northerns and bass are being caught in with the walleyes as well. We have had several large pike with one measuring over 40 inches. This is the best time of the year to catch large fish on the lake!! If you would like to get out on the water, give us a call and we will get you on the fish.

5-12-09

Fish are being caught!! We are slowly but surely starting to see spring warm up. Water temps have been improving and as soon as we hit some 65-70 degree weather for a few days, look for fishing action to heat up. We have caught many nice northerns in the shallows pitching jigs and plastics. There have also been a few walleyes caught using this presentation as well. It seems like we have had our best luck catching walleyes in deeper water with rocks and current. Look for fish to be in or near current areas. Anchoring up and vertical jigging has produced eyes and so has slip bobbering calmer water close to current areas. Live bait has worked and we have had good luck working jigs and plastics back to the boat. The fish are beautiful. We still have females with eggs in their belly, so please remember to practice catch and release on our future fish. Good luck to all!! If you have any questions or would like to go out fishing with us, give us a call and we will get you on the water. Set the hook!

4-25-09

The open water season on Devils Lake is close!! We have had some strong winds and warm temps, the perfect recipe for removing the ice sheet that stilll covers the lake. The bite has been good! Most people are fishing current areas. Look for bridges or culverts (anywhere there is running water). As water temps start to raise, look for more and more fish to be on the spawn. Best places to fish include: Six Mile Bay, Mauvis Coulee, Channel A, Northwest of Devils Lake, and Stump Lake. Best baits have been jigs and plastics, cranks, or spoons. There are fish in many different stages right now. Some have spawned, some are spawning, and some will be spawning over the next few weeks. What does this all mean? Keep your presentations open and keep moving around until you locate active fish. We are very optimistic about the bite this summer. With the lake predicted to rasie 4 feet, you can bet there will be plenty of fish in the newly flooded shallows. This is a great time to get that summer trip planned and we would love to take you out! Good luck fishing and remember catch and release on those fish full of eggs.

4-12-09

I don't know about you, but I am ready for spring and for the open water season to begin. It has been a long winter and I think that we are finally starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel. There is still plenty of ice on the lake, but look for ice to start breaking up as spring and warm weather continues. All signs are showing that we should have another great summer season on Devils Lake. We had a great walleye hatch last summer and is seems like there are several healthy age classes of fish. The lake is suppose to raise anywhere from several to 5 feet this year. I think that this will help the bite. Especially the shallow water bite with all that new vegetation that will get flooded. As for the bite right now, look for the bridges and anywhere with some current for fish to be close to. This time of year can be some of the very best fishing for trophy fish. Remember to practice catch and release on those females full of eggs, they are the future of the lake. Open water is near!!

2-20-09

Fishing has been pretty solid. Travel around the lake is better now then it was ealier in the year. We have been finding some of the world famous jumbo perch here lately on Devils Lake. The key as usual is to keep moving until you find them, and then you need to stay on top of them. Depths have varied from day to day, but we seem to have a more consitent bite in 29-34 feet of water. Walleyes have been pretty good most days, they should continue to get better and better as spring nears. Northerns seem to always cooperate on Devils Lake and we have seen some very nice slough sharks this winter. This is traditionally the best time to be ice fishing on Devils Lake, from here to ice out. Good luck!! There are a quite a few slush spots on the lake, so don't forget your shovel and tow rope.

1-20-09

It feels like a heat wave here on Devils Lake right now, the temps have been in the mid 20's the past few days. We have had a pretty cold and snowy winter here so far. Travel is a bit tricky on the ice right now. There are plowed roads and they access most of the lake; however, some areas you must have a snowcat to get to them. The bite has been good for walleyes. The key seems to be overcast days. They eyes are most active early and late, but they will bite all day when there is some cloud cover. Work humps, weedlines, timber, flooded roads, rock piles, and the old shorelines for the best bite. Perch fishing has been slow, the biggest reason is it is very hard to move and stay on top of the active school. Northerns have been going and it seems like shallower bays have been the ticket. Consistent and stable weather has been crucial and it has been flat out hard to fish when it is 20-30 below. We hope for some consistent warm weather and the bite will remain good. Good luck!

Mark with a 43'' Northern pike!!

12-8-08 Fishing on Devils Lake, ND

The ice is here and the ice fishing season is now underway! It is very important to use extreme caution this time of year. There are areas on the lake with very little ice. Many areas have 7-10 inches, but you should know where you are going and use a little common sense. Now for the fishing. The walleye bite has been pretty good early on. The key is to move until you locate active fish. Fish can be caught at any depth, but we like to concentrate on shallower fish this time of year. The weedbeds are still healthy and this is holding bait and the walleyes are always close. Working that 4-12 foot of water when fishing weeds. Northerns have been going and I was lucky enough to spear a personal best this past weekend (43 inch Northern). It was pretty exciting watching him come into the hole. No consistent perch bite to report at this time; however, the season is early and we will keep you posted. Good luck to all and have a fun and safe ice fishing season!!

9-28-08

The fish continue to cooperate on Devils Lake!! We are seeing some very fat walleyes, white bass, and northerns right now. They are definitely aggressive and will bite just about anything that you put in front of their mouths. Fish can be caught just about anywhere right now, but some of the better areas are current or weeds. We have caught many fish in 2-9 ft. of water using jigs and plastics or jigs tipped with live bait. It seems like it is important to have deeper water close when you are fishing these shallows spots.  Current areas around the bridges have been very consistent as well. Depths can vary from day to day, but the best presentation seems to be vertical jigging with live bait. Minnows and crawlers seem to be the best live baits to use. Also, when fishing near bridges or culverts, remember that fish could be anywhere around the current. Don’t be afraid to work sunken rocks, flooded trees, rip-rap, etc. that is located close to these current areas. We have had some great fall weather and we are anticipating a solid bite right up to freeze-up. Devils Lake is truly an outdoorsman’s paradise right now - excellent waterfowl hunting in the morning and great fishing in the afternoon.  Best of luck to all and have a safe and enjoyable fall bite!

8-28-08

And the bite goes on…What a summer it has been on Devils Lake, ND. The fishing has been as good as its ever been. We are still catching lots and lots of fish. We have a great variety of fish and classes of fish biting. We are seeing lots walleyes in the 12-17 inch range. It is fairly common to catch 40-80 plus fish a day. We have also had some very nice walleyes, many of hem over 20 inches. Best depths are anywhere from 7-30 feet of water. All presentations are working. Trolling cranks, pitching jigs, vertical jigging, slip-bobbering, and pulling bouncers and spinners.  Leeches and crawlers and the best baits to use. White bass are biting and once you find them you will catch them til’ your arm is sore. Look to find the bass near rip-rap roads, weed beds, and in shallow bays. We have had some nice pike as well. Deep rocks, weeds, and flooded timber close to deep water seem to be holding the most pike. It is hard to believe that Labor Day weekend is approaching. I am anticipating some great fall fishing on Devils Lake, so if you would like to spend some time on the water before the snow flies, give us a call and we will make it happen. Good Luck!

8-16-08

The fish are still going and I cannot remember a summer when there has been a more consistent bite. The bite is anywhere from 4-30 plus feet. We have seen a lot of smaller walleyes, but there are nicer fish cooperating as well. All of the usual presentations have been going. Fish the way that is most comfortable for you. The key right now is to move until you locate active fish. When you find them you can usually pile in a bunch of fish. Spots can change from day to day, so don't be afraid to move. White bass are going all over the lake, and they are about every cast when you get into them. Northerns are a bit spotty, but we did catch a big 41.5 incher this past week. Summer is slowly slipping away, get out there and enjoy some of the great fishing. Remember, Devils Lake has some fantastic fall action as well, so give us a call and we will get you on the water!!

8-1-05

And the bite goes on. The future for Devils Lake looks very bright! We are catching lots of fish and the variety is very encouraging for the upcoming years. Walleyes between 12-18 inches are the norm these days. These fish seem to be everywhere and it also seems they will bite just about anything. The best depths are between 8-18 feet of water. We are also catching northerns scattered in with the walleyes. White bass are spotty, but when you find them they are cooperating. The key is cover. Bait will be holding anywhere there is a place to hide, which will in turn bring in the fish. Flooded trees, sunken roads, rocks and weeds are all great places to look.  Devils Lake has cover in every bay and along all of the shorelines. With great weather in the forecast, this is a great time to be on the water. Good Luck!!

7-23-08

This past week has been some of the best fishing of the year! We are catching fish just about everywhere and all presentations seem to be working. All sizes are biting, and it is common to catch 30-80 walleyes in a day. There are lots of smaller fish biting; however, you run into pockets of nicer fish as well. Many 15-18 inch walleyes are being caught which are very nice eating fish. We have had some 4 pound + walleyes as well. White bass are scattered but when you find them, it is every cast.  Watch for them boiling near the shorelines. We had a 40 inch northern while trolling this past week. It seems like you will catch a few of them every day. Not to sound like a broken record here, but again the key is weeds. Many anglers get frustrated when they get weeds on their line and they move. Find the edges or pockets of the weeds and you will catch fish. The best depths seem to be 7-15 feet. Other areas to fish include: points, flooded timber, the old shorelines, drop-offs and rip-rap. This past week we have caught fish trolling, bobbering, vertical jigging, pitching jigs, and pulling bouncers and spinners. You can pick whatever presentation you are most comfortable with. Good luck fishing!!

7-17-08

The weather has been very unstable, but it seems like someone forgot to tell the fish. We are still catching fish and they are being caught using a variety of presentations. In one day we caught walleyes by jigging, slip-bobbering pitching gulp and trolling cranks. Bouncers and spinners are also working. The key to catching fish is working the edge of weed lines, around 8-15 ft. of water. Weeds have been growing steadily and this has been attracting lots of bait, which brings in the fish. Also, work areas where the wind is blowing. There are several different hatches occurring on the lake and the wave action stirs them up and this creates the feeding frenzy. Fish are very healthy and feeding, this is a great time to be fishing on Devils Lake.

7-10-08

Fishing continues to be good. We are seeing lots of 13-15 inch Walleyes biting. It doesn’t seem to matter where you go, you will run into some of these fish. Nicer fish are being caught as well, you’re just going to see more of the 13-15 inch class. White bass are every cast in some areas. Once you find them, they will hit just about anything that you throw at them. Northerns are still being caught, but are scattered and are transitioning into deeper water. Best depths to work for Walleyes are 4-15 feet. We have been trolling Salmos and Shad-raps and having good luck this past week. Working that 8-15 ft. depth seems to be the best. Live bait rigs, like bouncers and spinners, are also working. Slip bobbers in the trees have also been good. Use small jigs or red hooks under the bobbers tipped with leeches or crawlers. Whatever presentation you prefer to use will catch some fish! Good luck and enjoy the fishing!!

7-2-08

Fishing has been solid. We are pretty much to the point where fish can be caught anywhere on any given day. We are transitioning into summer patterns and fish are in many different places. Shallow bays are still producing. Weed beds are really starting to come up and there are fish in or near the weeds. Also, fish are starting to slide a bit deeper, deeper being 10-25 feet of water. Pitching jigs or cranks into the shallows, slip bobbering in the trees or drop-offs, and pulling spinners or trolling cranks has all produced fish. The most important factor on Devils Lake is to keep moving until you locate active fish. Good Luck and have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July!!

6-23-08

Fishing has been nothing short of fantastic! With the warm weather we have seen the water temp. really jump up and this is helping to get the bite going. Also, the warm weather has caused some algae to start and this is good because the water has been very clear. Walleyes, white bass, and northerns are all biting. It is common to catch all three of them while working shallow bays. The key is to fish bays that are stirred up a bit and work flooded timber, weeds, and gradual drop-offs. Pitching jigs and cranks up into the shallows and slowly retrieving them back to the boat has worked well. Bobbers in the trees tipped with leeches has been good. The key with bobber fishing is to move until you locate fish, sometimes only moving a small distance or adjusting a few feet in depth will make all the difference. Anglers are also pull bouncers and spinners around and catching fish. Best depths have been shallow for us (between 2-12 feet). We have been very busy and our clients are catching some beautiful fish. If you would like to experience some great fishing, give us a call and we will make it happen!! Check out some of the fishing pictures in our photo album.

6-13-08

Weather has been very nasty here the past few days. When the weather cooperates, so do the fish. Water temps are slowly but surely climbing up and this is turning the walleyes on. We have been fishing shallow water and working jigs and cranks slowly back to the boat. It can be a finesse bite at times and it is critical to slow your retrieve down. Fish are also being caught in the trees with jigs and bobbers and with live bait rigs like bouncers and spinners out deeper. We are around the 60 degree mark for water temp and with warmer weather predicted, the bite will get better and better. We have had days were the fish have been really hitting and with stable and warmer weather it should be fantastic fishing coming up. Good luck to all and hope to see you on the water!

6-1-08

Big fish are biting.  Over the past few days, many groups have caught large walleye, pike and bass.  We have had walleyes up to nine pounds and many between four and seven pounds.  We had a pike that weighed 20 pounds and others in the 8 – 15 pound range.  The key is shallow and slow presentations.  Find warm water, work it patiently and you will find fish.  Now is a great time of the year to catch trophy fish, but please remember to practice catch and release on the trophies, unless you’re planning to have them mounted.  Good luck fishing and I will get more pics on my website in the next few days.  Keep your lines tight and your hooks sharp!

5-26-08

The fishing is getting better and better! White bass, northerns, and walleyes are biting on Devils Lake right now. Find calm warm water and you will find fish. Many nice walleyes have been caught shallow the past few days. Some shallow bays are as warm as 58 degrees. Pitching jigs or cranks and retrieving them back slowly is the key. Many fish will hit right at the boat. Also, the bridges have been producing some fish as well. Lindy-rigs and jigs worked very slowly is the ticket. Some walleyes are also being caught in shallow bays pulling live bait rigs. Again, work them slowly. The fishing will continue to get better every week now. We have had some big northerns hit as well. The good thing about fishing shallow, is that you catch lots of different fish. All the fish we are catching right now are big and healthy!! Good luck fishing and if you have any questions about Devils Lake or would like to fish with us, give us a call. 701 739-0161.

5-12-08

The weather has been lousy here the past few weeks. It seems like it is either cold, blowing or snowing. We have had the occasional nice day, but we need to string together several nice days. As I mentioned in my last report, we need some warm weather. Give us a week of 70 plus weather and the eyes will be active. Water temperature is still cold (anywhere from mid 40's to low 50's). Best bet for walleyes is warm water and slow presentations. Jigs and lindy-rigs are a great presentation for sluggish eyes. Also, try deeper rocks or road beds. Many times there will be fish spawning in these areas and you can pick off some fish.So the secret ingredient right now is for old mother nature to let the sun shine and let summer begin. Let us know if we can help with any questions about fishing Devils Lake and if you need a guided trip we would be more than happy to get you out. Happy Fishing!

4-28-08

We have open water! It is time to hit the water after a long winter in the Northland. Be careful for possible floating debris and ice chunks out there. As for fishing, expect the bite to get better and better with the arrival of warmer weather. It has been a bit of a chilly spring, but it can only get warmer. Fish shallow and current areas. Jigs, lindy-rigs, and cranks all produce fish this time of year. If you are interested in experiencing some early season fishing, give us a call and we will get you on the water. Remember: fish for the future this time of year and release the big females.

1-28-08

Hello to all!! Hope the New Year has been kind to everyone so far. We are now in the heart of winter and fishing has been pretty good. The walleyes have been a bit hit and miss, but overall the winter bite has been decent. My best result have been really shallow or really deep. Deep for DL is 20 feet or more. The edges of the weed lines have been good and walleyes have been caught as shallow as 5 feet. Usually when fishing weed lines, the edges are the best, around 7-9 feet. Pike fishing has been good! Many are using tip-ups or spearing for them. We have had some big slough sharks this winter, it is very cool when they come into the hole. Perch have been nice (as far as the size goes), but it is not always easy to get a bunch of them. There are obviously days they go, and others they don't. Minnows or minnow heads have been the best. Have a safe and enjoyable time on the hard water!!

9/20/07

Where has the summer gone?? Oh the time flies when you are having fun the water. The bite is still pretty good. Fish are overall a bit smaller and larger walleyes are tougher to find. They are there, they just aren't as aggressive as they were earlier in the summer. The key is to find the active school of fish. Move until you locate them and catch them while you can. Don't be afraid to move around until you find them. There are always fish biting somewhere on Devils Lake. The best places to fish include: Black Tiger, East DL, Haybale, Rutten's area, and anywhere there are deep rocks or flooded roads. Weed lines are also producing fish. Trolling, bobbers, live bait rigs are all great presentations to try. Salmos and Shad-raps are working and colors seem to change everyday. Northerns are still being caught in shallow and some nicer pike have been caught trolling deep rocks. White bass are everywhere, just go work shorelines and you will find them. Good Luck and get out there and enjoy whats left of our summer!!

7/26/07

And the bite goes on!! Devils Lake continues to produce many nice eater size walleyes. There are some bigger fish being caught as well; however, most days the eaters are the norm. Get out to the lake and fish. I prefer to fish early before the heat gets to tough. All presentations will work. Trolling cranks, pitching jigs or cranks along the weeds or drop-offs, spinners and bouncers, bobbers, vertical jigging. Whatever way that you want to fish you can do it! Best bays include: Dead Cow, Black Tiger, Haybale, Jerusalem, Foughty's, and most areas in east DL. Best depths can vary, but anywhere from 9-25 feet of water. The key is to move and find them. Tip of the week: Red hooks are deadly for walleyes. I like to rig up a few presentations of bottom bouncer, 2 ft. of vanish and a red hook with leech. Give it a try and it should put a few more fish in the box.

Remember that summer is slowly slipping away, get out there and enjoy the great fishing!

7/9/07

Fishing has been hot!!  We are seeing a lot of the smaller walleyes hitting on the lake.  Lots of the 13-15 inch fish are biting right now.  They are very aggressive and seem to be all over.  Pitching cranks or jigs along weed lines and drop off areas has been very effective.  Many people are pulling bouncers and spinners tipped with leeches or crawlers.  Good depths are anywhere from 7 - 30+ feet, but I would focus on water in the 8-14 depth.  Trolling cranks has been hot as well.  Work 8-14 feet of water here too.  Salmos, shad-raps, and jointed shad-raps have been very good.  Colors can change each day, but anything with an orange belly has been hot.  Bobber fishing is solid as well.  The key with bobbers is to move until you locate fish.  The best bays to fish in are Stromme's, Foughty's, Haybale, Black Tiger Bay, Dead Cow Bay, and East Devils Lake.  Now is the time to get out and enjoy some of the greatest fishing of the year.  Good luck and remember to try to take a young person fishing!!  Tip of the Week:  Fish can be caught pretty much anywhere during this time of the year.  The key is to cover water until you locate the school that you want to fish.  Two great ways to cover water quickly include trolling cranks and pitching cranks.  Cover water and eventually you will find them!!!

6-26-07

Fishing continues to be pretty solid all over the lake. This year seems to be different from years in the past. Maybe it's because of all the fronts and various winds from every direction. Spots that maybe produced last summer, may not be the same this year. Don't be afraid to explore. However, the fish are biting and we have been doing very well. I have been pitching cranks into the shallows pretty much every single day. This is one of the funnest ways that I know of to catch a lot of fish and a variety of fish. Plus, you cover water and you locate the fish. Best cranks include: #5 shads,#4 Jointed shads, #5 Jointed shads, and #4 Salmo Hornets. Colors can change from day to day but I like any of the blues, firetiger, hot steel, pearl, crawdad. Jigs and plastics have also ben producing.

Trolling bouncers and cranks has worked as well. Bobbers in the trees with leeches has beengood some days too. Best bays: Pelican Lake, Mission, Foughty's, Penny, and thesouth end of Black Tiger Bay. Tip of the Week: Don't be afraid to change it up. Try something different. Fish a bay that you have never fished before. There are fish all over Devils Lake. Stay away from the crowds and you will put more fish in the boat! Have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July!!!

6-14-07

Fishing has been good.  The fish have been caught in all depths, with the most active fish coming in shallow.  Work shorelines, anywhere from 2 - 8 feet of water, pitching cranks.  Slip-bobbering in the trees has also been effective, as well as spinners in deeper water.  The best bays include Black Tiger Bay, Haybale Bay, Skadsen's, Foughty's Point, and Penny Bay.  Leeches have been working well with slip-bobbers and crawlers and leeches have been working well with spinners.  The best colors for cranks include pearl, firetiger, perch, and blues.  #5 regular and jointed shadraps have been the best.  Tip of the Week:  While working cranks, retrieve them slowly with pauses and jerks.  This has been the key to getting strikes.  Have a great time on the water!

1-10-07

Walleye fishing has been good and the best time to fish has been early and late. Sunrise until 10am and 3:30 until 6pm. Walleyes can be caught at other times, but these are the key times to fish. Perch fishing has been good some days and slow others. Cover water and work unitl you find the active school. Pike are continuing to be caught and they are cooperating all day long. The best places to fish include: Black Tiger Bay, Penny Bay, Mission, Ft. Totten Pt., Creel Bay, Six Mile Bay, Cactus, and the humps in the Flats. Good luck and remember to be safe on the ice!!

9-1-06

Fishing continues to be good with a variety of methods working well. The key is to find active fish and stay on them. Don't be afraid to cover some area and locate active fish. Lindy-rigging, spinners, trolling cranks, and pitching cranks are all great ways to cover water and they are producing the most fish. Weed lines have been good and so have deep rocks. Best bays include: Misson, Penny, Black Tiger(south end), Old Mill, Swansons Pt., Ft Totten Pt., Cactus, and the Bird Island area. Good luck to all and enjoy the rest of summer!!

8-2-06

Fishing remains excellent on Devils Lake. Fish are being caught in Foughties, Haybale, Balck Tiger Bay, Stromme Edition, Mission Bay, Cactus, Fort Totten Pt., Old Mill, Towers, and along the rip rap roads. Bouncers and spinners tipped with crawlers and leeches has been producing fish and trolling cranks in 8-16 feet of water. Work the weed beds, flooded roads, humps, and points. Weather has been nice and the fishing remians great. Get out there and enjoy the excellent fishing!! Tip of the week: Use fresh and lively bait. This time of year there is a lot of bait fish in the water and it is very important that your bait is active. Have a good one and be safe on the water!!

7-21-06

Fishing is hot!! We have had a great bite going and now is the time to get out and catch some fish. I have had my best luck trolling salmos in about 8-14 ft of water. Color can vary from day to day. Try to troll around 1.8 to 2.8. Work the rip rap shorelines, edge of weed lines, flooded road beds, humps, and points. Live bait has been working to and bouncers and spinners tipped with crawlers or leeches is the best bait. Bobbers in the trees is also catching fish, they key is find the right tree. Look to fish in that 8-20 ft range. Todays tip: The early morning bite has been great (7am-11am), get out of bed a bit earlier than usual and get out there and catch em' and get back before it gets to hot. We had some hot weather last week and the bite was best for me in the morning. Best bays: Mission, Cactus, Ft. Totten pt., New Mill, Golden Highway, Foughties, North Shoreline, and South end of Black Tiger. Good Luck and get out there and enjoy some of the great fishing!!

7-10-06

Fishing remains great. With the warm weather, look for fish to slide deeper. Right now the best depths are 4 - 20 feet. Slip-bobbering in the trees, pulling spinners, or trolling crank baits along the weed lines (above 9 feet) has proven to produce a lot of fish. Flooded roads, points, and humps are holding fish. Tip of the week: Watch your depth finder closely when trolling and covering water. Stay close to the weed lines and change speeds anywhere from 1.4 - 2.8 mph. The best bays to fish are Mission, Stromme Edition, Foughties Point, Old Mill Bay, Fort Totten Point, and Haybale Bay.  Enjoy the great weather and have a good one!!

6-26-06

Fishing remains steady.  Over the past week we've had some inconsistent weather, which has made fishing a bit hit and miss.  When the weather has been stable, fishing has been excellent.  Walleyes are being caught in depths between 2 and 20 feet of water.  Slip-bobbering, pulling spinners, pitching cranks, and trolling cranks have all been good methods to use.  Some of the better areas to fish include New Mill Bay, Mission Bay, Foughties Point, Penny Bay, and Black Tiger Bay.  Football-sized White Bass are being caught in Penny Bay and Skadsen's by pitching crank baits.  Tip of the week:  When bobber fishing, spool up Fireline to your barrel swivel then use a two-foot lead of Berkely Vanish and a red hook and then put a split-shot above your barrel swivel.  This will help to put more fish in the box.  Have a happy and safe 4th of July!

6-17-06

Fishing remains excellent on Devils Lake. Walleyes, Northerns, and White Bass are all biting. Some of the best areas to fish include: New Mill Bay, Haybale, Black Tiger Bay, Foughties Point, Mission Bay, Cactus, and the Skadsens.

Walleyes are still shallow, but they are starting to slide out to deeper water. Anywhere from 2-14 feet has been very productive. Leeches and crawlers are both working. Bobbers, dead-sticking, vertical jigging, pitching jigs, and lindy rigging in the trees has been good. Bouncers and spinners and trolling cranks has been working as well. White Bass are all over in the shallows and once you find them, prepare to catch lots of fish. Northerns are in shallow and seem to hang around the bass (also look for weed beds starting to come up). Tip of the week: When fishing with crawlers, pinch them in half. I catch way more fish with half of a crawler than I do with a full crawler. Scent is given off and the Walleyes can't help but bite. Have a good one and try to take some time to enjoy the great summer and fishing.

6-5-06

The fish have been very active!! Fish are being caught in the shallow water. Walleyes, Bass, and Northerens are all shallow.Water temps are anywhere from 64-70 degrees. Cranks, twister-tails, mimic minnows, and sassy shads are all working. Also, bobbers and leeches are producing a lot of fish. Try red hooks or 1/8 or 1/16 oz. jigs below them. Best areas to fish include: Penny, Skadsens, Haybale, and any shoreline that has some wind blowing into it. Keep moving until you locate active fish, once you locate them, jog and bobber them. Good luck to all and I hope to see you on the water.

5-29-06

The fish are biting!! Walleyes are more aggressive each day. They are in the warm water and many methods will work for them. Slip bobbering in the trees (anywhere from 2-15 feet of water) with lecches under jigs or split shots and hooks (try red hooks). Pitching jigs with live bait or plastic is also producing. Of course cranks are working. (one key to working any of the lures, when you get your lure within 10-15 feet from the boat, twitch it, pause, and again, and again). Many fish are hitting close to the boat, so be ready. White bass are starting to go crazy as well, it's all this warm weather. Northerns are being caught in shallow. Basically, you should stay shallow and expect to catch walleyes, white bass, and northerns in the process. Best places to fish: Mission, New Mill Bay, Skadsems, Penny, and Haybale Bay.Good luck to all and hope to see you on the water!!

5-21-06

Hello fishermen!! Devils Lake has had a solid bite for walleyes, northerns, and white bass. The key to spring and early summer fishing is to find warm water. Shallow bays are the best bet. Find timber or reeds and work cranks or jigs and plastics ( I personally like walleye assassins or sassy shads with jigs). Smaller cranks like #4 or #5 shad raps, countdowns, salmos, and huskey jerks work well. Color can change from day to day or even hour to hour, but perch, blue, pearl, anything with chrome all work well. Best bays to fish include Penny Bay, Mission Bay, Howard Farm, and Pelican. Again the warmer the water, the better. I like anything over 55 degrees. Good Luck and hope to see you on the lake. Remember, fish for the future!! Release the big ones, take a picture instead.

5-10-06

Fishing on Devils Lake is starting to take off again!! Northern action is hot anywhere you fish in the shallows. Try to find warm water(anything over 52 degrees seems to be the key). Jigs and soft plastics, shadraps, countdowns, salmosare all working to catch fish. Walleyes are also starting to get active and look for the bite to get better as the month goes on. The key this time of year is shallow and warm water. Good Luck and happy fishing.

7-14-2005 Fishing continues to be good!! Walleyes are being caught in front of Hwy 20, 57, and Woods Rutten bridges. Anchoring and jigging minnnows or crawlers had been very productice. Leeches are also working but they are hard to find. Fish are being caught in all depths and some of the best methods to use include: trolling cranks, pulling bottom bouncers, jigging the trees, and pitching cranks along the weedbeds or rocky shorelines. Best areas to fish include: Mission Bay, Cactus Pt., Six Mile Bay, Stromme Edition and Fort Totten. Good luck to all and enjoy the fall fishing!!

8-22-05

Fishing on DL has been a bit hit and miss. This time of year the fish are all over and can be caught in any depth and with any fishing method. The biggest key is to locate the active school and stay on them. Watch your depth finders for fish and differences in the bottom. From soft to hard, 10 feet to 15 feet and so on. Find the structure. Fish the old shorelines, weedbeds, humps, trees, sunken roads, rock piles, and riprock areas. Mission Bay has still been producings Walleyes, along with the North Shore, Stromme Edition, Foughty's Point, New Mill Bay, East Bay. Keep moving and changing depths until you locate the active walleyes. White Bass have been hot in Skadsems and Northerns have been scattered in with the Walleyes. Good Luck!!

8-11-05

Fishing continues to be good on Devils Lake. Walleyes are being caught in all depths and many eating sized fish are being caught. Some methods to try include: Slip-Bobbers in the trees, pitching cranks along the shorelines, trolling cranks or bouncers and spinners. Worms and leeches are the best live baits to use. Some of the best areas ionclude: Foughty's, Haybale, Mission Road, North Shore, Dead Cow Bay, Mission Bay, and the Stromme Addition. Good Luck to all and enjoy the rest of summer!!

7-17-05

Fishing has been excellent on Devils Lake!! Walleyes are being caught in 2 to 30 feet of water. Working the shorelines with cranks has been excellent. Blue and Pearl  #5's have been very hot colors to use. The key is to find weeds and work around them. Jigging and slip bobbers have also been very effective. Use crawlers and leeches and fish the trees. Work points, humps, drop-offs, and move until you locate fish. I usually give each area about 10 to 20 minutes and if I haven't had any action I move. Bouncers and spinners have also been working well. Work the old shoreline, Haybale, Skadsems, Foughty's, Rutten Road, or the North Shoreline. White bass are also being caught in most areas of the lake, once you find them it's one after another. Northerns are starting to move out deeper and look for areas that have deep rocks, and remember that you can always catch them in shallow as well. Good Luck to all Fisherman and enjoy the great action!!

6-27-05

Fishing continues to be good on Devils Lake. We have had some rain and unstable weather over the past week which has made patterning the fish more difficult than usual. Once you locate the depth the action has been great. Walleyes are still being caught in shallow water. The weeds are starting to surface and it is important to work the openings with live bait or crank baits. Fish are being caught in the trees as well. Anywhere from 6-17 feet of water. Bobbers and jigging methods have worked well tipped with leeches or crawlers. Bouncers and spinners have also been catching fish and look for more fish to be caught out a bit deeper as summer and warm weather continue. Get out there and enjoy the lake and have a safe and fun 4th of July!! (Bry)

6-20-05

Fishing has been very good on Devils Lake!! Walleyes are being caught in depths that range from 2-30 feet. The best depths to fish are still shallow. Pitching cranks along the shorelines, jigging and bobbering in the trees(3-15 ft), and pulling bouncers and spinners have all produced walleyes. Worms and leeches have been the best baits and seem to vary each day on which is the hottest. White Bass are also biting in the shallows and when you find them it is one after another. Look for bubbles in the water. The bass are absolute footballs and the walleyes are fat and healthy too. Northerns are also biting in the shallows and I would pitch cranks for them as well. Don't be afraid to pitch a jig/sassy shad into the shallows as well. Many fish have been caught using this method. Best bays on the East end of DL to fish include: Penny Bay, Skadsens, Dead Cow, Foughty's and Haybale has been producing fish too!! Good Luck to all and we will see you on the water!

6-14-05

Fishing on DL continues to be excellent. Many good eaters(walleyes) are being caught and the key is to still fish shallow water. Working the shorelines with shad raps, countdowns, huskey-jerks, sassy shads, has been doing great. Some colors to use include blue, firetiger, perch, and pearl. Work areas that have weed beds, rip rap, trees, or gravel bottoms. Fishing in the trees has also produced some good numbers of fish in the 2-15 foot range. Northerns and White Bass can be in the same areas as the Walleyes. Best areas to fish on the Eastern part of DL include: Skadsem's, Penny Bay, Dead Cow Bay, Haybale Bay, and the South Shoreline located around the Balck Tiger landing. Have a good one and good luck to everyone!!

6-6-05

Fishing has been hot!! Walleyes, White Bass, anbd Notherns are all being caught all over Devils Lake. As far as the eatern part of Devils Lake, the best areas to fish include: Dead Cow Bay, Skadsem's, Penny Bay, and Foughty's Point. Fish are shallow and the best way to catch them is with cranks or jigs. Tie up in the trees or troll the shorelines and mix up your retrieve until you find what they want. The best retrieve seems to be slow with occasional pauses and jerks involved. Fish are also being catch trolling bouncers and spinners. Again, I would fish shallow water (water less than 10ft.) and worms have been the best. Tip: Cut the worms in half, this will help attract fish. Get out there and enjoy the great fishing nad remember to fish for the future and release the big boys and keep the eaters!!

Fishing has been hit and miss for walleyes on Devils Lake over the past week. The best walleye bite is in the evening and jigs and plastics or shadraps have been working the best. I don't think that color is as important as getting it across their nose at the right time. The best areas to fish are shorelines with gravel and timber.  Northerns have been biting all over with the best bite coming out of Pelican lake. Working the shorelines with crankbaits. White bass are also being caught in the shallows using cranks or jigs and soft plastics. Good Luck to all and see you on the water!!

5-17-05

Fishing on Devils Lake is starting to pick up!! Walleyes and Northerns are being caught in shallow water. The warmer the water temperature the better. Anything over 50 degrees seems to have active fish. Some good areas to fish include: Six mile bay, Mauvis Coulee, Howard Farm area, and Pelican Lake. Through shadraps, countdowns, huskeyjerks, rat'l traps or jigs and soft plastics along the shorelines that have gravel/rock/sand bottoms. Live bait will also work and slip bobbers along the same shorelines. The eastern part of the lake hasn't been as consistent. Skadsen's has some Northerns biting and there are a few Walleyes biting here and there, but the water temperature is cooler then the western part of the lake. Warm weather will heat the east end up soon. Good Luck to all anglers and I will see you on the water!!

4-24-05

The lake is completely ice free and the docks should be going in soon.  Use caution on the lake as there will be trees floating around. Look for the bite to be around current and in warmer water. Fish shallow bays with cranks, jigs/soft plactics, or bobbers and smelt.  Please remember to fish for the future and release the bigger fish and allow them to spawn.  Good Luck!!

4-15-05

Fishing is limited to small boats or shore fishing at this time.  Northern Pike and Walleye action is beginning and look for some nice fish to be caught. Fish areas with current. Bridges, chanels, and windswept areas will produce the best action. Lures to use can vary from jigs and soft plastics, bobbers and smelt, or cranks. Remember that because the spawn is occurring, handle the fish carefully and only keep the eaters. Fish for the future!!

7-26-04

Fishing continues to be good on Devils Lake. Fish are being caught in 2 feet of water all the way up to 30 plus feet of water. The key this time of year is to keep moving until you find active fish. Weeds are a good place to look for walleyes, white bass, and northern pike. Work the edges and pockets with cranks or jigs and soft plastics. It is helpful to have polarized glasses to locate the pockets and openings. If you are fishing deeper, bouncers and spinners or leadcore with cranks are very productive. Tip the spinners with crawlers or leeches. Best colors seem to be blue, hammered gold/silver, and any bright color. Best depths seems to depend on the day; however, start by working the old shorelines and move shallower and deeper until fish are located. Enjoy the beautiful summer weather and good luck to all anglers. Remember: Fish for the future and put the bigger fish back. A quick picture and release ensures the future of Devils Lake!!!!

7-16-04

Fishing has been awesome on Devils Lake this past week. Walleyes are hitting in 2 feet of water all the way to 28 feet of water. When there is a bit of a breeze, pitch shad raps along the shorelines and get ready. Walleyes, White Bass, and Northerns are all hitting. The key is to work the weed beds and the windy shorelines. Out deeper, bouncers and spinners tipped with crawlers or leeches have worked well. Also, trolling cranks has produced some nice fish. Best areas to try include: Foughty's Point, Haybale Bay, Skadsens, Black Tiger Bay, and the Rutten Road area. Good Luck to all fishermen and enjoy the great fishing and weather!!!!

7-5-04

The weather has been wet and a bit windy; however, fishing has been good. Some of the best areas to fish include: Rocky Point, Skadsen's, Foughty's Point, Black Tiger Bay, and the old shoreline. The key to fishing the old shorelines is to work the areas that have had some wind and that have the best rock/structure to them. This time of year(mid-summer), fishing usually is very good around the old shorelines. Best depths are 18-28 feet of water. Spinners and bouncers or trolling cranks are great methods to use to cover these areas. Good Luck to all anglers and enjoy your time on the water!!

6-28-04

Fishing has been fair to good the last few days. Warm and consistent weather is in the forecast and fishing should improve. Best areas to fish include: Foughty's Point, Penny Bay, Mission Bay, and the south end of Black Tiger Bay. Fish are being caught at all depths. Tree fishing with jigs and bobbers, cranking the shorelines, pulling bouncers and spinners, and pulling cranks are the best methods. The key is to cover water and find the active fish. Good Luck and have a great and safe 4th of July!!!

6-15-04

Fishing continues to get better and better. The key is to fish the shallow bays and work the wind swept shorelines. Pitching cranks and jigs has been very effective. Best cranks include: shad-raps, huskey-jerks and countdowns. Best colors seem to vary; however, the brighter colors seem to produce better than the duller colors. Slip-bobbers and jigs in the trees have also been producing some big fish. Best baits to use are leeches or crawlers. Best areas to fish: Foughty's Point, Penny Bay, Skadsens, Dead Cow Bay, and the Middle Bay in the south end og Black Tiger Bay. Good Luck fisherman and have a good one!!!

6-5-04

Fishing was fair to good all over the east end of Devils Lake. Many nice walleyes were being caught in shallow water using shad-raps or countdowns. Slip-bobbers and jigs also produced fish in the shallow water as well. Best areas include: Dead Cow Bay, Skadsen's Bay, Penny Bay, and Foughty's Point. Pike continue to be caught all over the lake. Best method is pitching cranks along the shorelines.

Awesome Job Terri Taylor(from Wisconsin)!! Terri caught a 30 inch Walleye using a jig tipped with a leech. She caught the fish in the trees at Foughty's Point in about 11 feet of water. Terri was fishing with Bry's Guide Service. Way to go Terri on the Whopper Walleye!! Fish caught 6-4-04.
